On September 18, Rector Levente Kovacs of Óbuda University, Hungary, led a delegation to visit the Department of Statistics and Data Science, Tsinghua University. Professor Liu Jun, Chair of the Department, extended a warm welcome and held discussions with the guests on research collaboration and talent cultivation in interdisciplinary areas of statistics and data science.
During the meeting, Professor Liu introduced the department’s overall development. He highlighted its distinctive strengths in integrating statistics with artificial intelligence, biology, environmental science, and digital humanities. The department’s faculty team includes scholars with academic backgrounds from internationally renowned institutions such as Harvard University, Yale University, and Stanford University, and their research spans a wide range of areas. In recent years, the department has undertaken numerous research and consulting projects, generating substantial academic and industrial impact both domestically and internationally.
Rector Kovacs presented an overview of Óbuda University. He noted that the university has established collaborations with Chinese scholars and with support from the Hungarian government, is building research platforms to deepen cooperation. As a practice-oriented university of technology, Óbuda University maintains strong connections between engineering disciplines and statistics. Rector Kovacs expressed his eagerness to foster closer ties with the Department of Statistics and Data Science and warmly invited its faculty and students to engage in academic exchanges at Óbuda University.
